The April 2009 wildfire which started in Conway grew and moved as gusts of upto 30 MPH fueled and spread the fire across 30,000 acres. At this time 70 homes are reported lost and over 30 more have sustained damage. This fire started as a result of a homeowner burning trash in his backyard. The homeowner only lived a few miles from the landfill.
